3 miles of possible (the first mile) excerpt
FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:
In October and November 2021, I shared the first third (i.e. the first mile) of a durational solo performance titled „3 miles of possible“ for intimate audiences of 12. It lasted an hour and a half. The completed work will be shared with the public later in 2022 or in 2023.
This work gathers and sifts together associations of “the possible” in a world of personal, material, political and artistic uncertainties. I animate and travel along a series of spatial paths envisioned as giant drawings, spells, sigils, and/or runes. These paths are threaded through with a variety of movement scores, choreographies, tasks, interactions with objects, guest artists, texts, songs, and environmental sounds. Although much of the investigation is movement based, visual, sonic, textual and discursive interventions will touch upon utopian longings, possible world theory, and modal logic.
In this excerpt my path through space traces sigils created from the words LOST POSSIBLE UTOPIAN TURNING
created and performed by Linda Austin
dramaturgical assistance: Allie Hankins
sounds/music: Austin & Juniana Lanning
Texts:
Many of the words in this first mile are by Linda.
Thanks to Renee Gladman for permission to utter
the forward from „Ana Patova Crosses a Bridge.“
Margaret Cavendish’s 17th-century proto-SF utopian
novel „The Blazing World“ is the source for more words.
