7 Tips to Keep Your Life Balanced and Maintain Self Control
Jenny and her husband live in a beautiful Tudor house in an affluent neighborhood in Los Angeles. They’re raising 3 active kids and successfully running their businesses while managing PTAs, carpooling, and weekly date nights. Despite all this, Jenny is unhappy with her “perfect life.” Feeling irritable and exhausted, she visits her doctor for an annual checkup and is shocked to learn that her cholesterol levels are through the roof!
Her health issues are diagnosed as stress-related, but she’s not alone. 77% of people regularly experience physical symptoms caused by stress.
“My doctor told me I needed to learn to chill out if I’m gonna drop my cholesterol levels,” she comments. “He suggested I try yoga or join a meditation group, and I thought, am I in a general practitioner’s office or did I make a wrong turn into Camp Tie-dye?”
In a typical overachiever fashion, Jenny added yoga and a workout routine to her already overloaded schedule, hoping for a quick fix to her health problems. But after a month, there was no improvement. “I can’t keep up with my endless daily checklist. I don’t have time to deal with cholesterol. In fact, I feel completely overwhelmed by my life,” she says.
Jenny’s fate changed the morning she met a psychologist at a women’s networking breakfast. The psychologist told her that quick fixes were not the answer – she needed a long-term lifestyle change. She needed life balance.
