824C O Ga. DCC Automatic Shuttle Display at 8/28/22 NRHS Allenwood PA Show
FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:
This short 2-minute-long video — recorded Aug. 2022 at an NRHS train show — uses 2 MTH Proto-3 O-gauge locomotives to demonstrate automatic point-to-point operation — where the a member of the PUBLIC can push a button, and the trains will run back and forth for 1 „cycle“.
* The layout is 6″ wide and 7′-9″ long. The plan is that this layout will fit on one of the typical 8′ long tables that you can rent at train shows.
~~~~~~
* A „programmable Digital Command Control (DCC) model train controller“ (aka NCE Mini-Panel) is used — so that when a person pushes a button located on the front of the table, the 2 trains automatically travel to the left end of the table, pause about 5 seconds, then return back to the right end of the table.
* The trains use a Z-Stuff detector in 1 direction, and time-delay in the other direction.
* A 3rd train (an S-Helper Service S gauge SW9) will then make a point-to-point trip on its track. The S-gauge train uses time-delay in both direction. The train is run for about 1-1/2 seconds longer in Reverse, to assure it always returns to its original starting point.
* The trains will then sit there and „wait“, until someone pushes the button again; then they will repeat the cycle all over.
* There are Z-Stuff infrared block signal detectors on each end of the track, which is how the Mini-Panel „knows“ to stop the trains when they reach the end of the track.
* The O-gauge track is the MTH Realtrax. The 2 O-gauge locos are MTH „Proto 3“ diesels, that can run on either MTH’s proprietary DCS system, or can run on standard non-proprietary DCC — as seen in the video.
* An NCE Power Cab, hidden behind the „layout“, is providing the power.
