Glenwood Canyon and I-70 Closed Again

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

Interstate 70, plus Amtrak and other rail service, remains shut down for the third time in less than a month due to a destructive „debris flow“ in the Grizzly Creek Fire burn scare near Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

July is normally the peak of the summer travel season in Colorado. Yet only emergency workers, and a handful of residents who live in the canyon, are allowed past the check point manned by state troopers.

The closure of I-70 forces motorists on a multi-hours detour through Steamboat Springs for westbound travelers, or through Aspen for tourists driving east.

More rains is expected for the next week, increasing the probability that the canyon, and all other transportation, will be shut down again.

In addition to closing the highway and train tracks, commercial and recreational rafters who normally float the Colorado River are also prohibited due to the danger of flash floods.
