AEI Music Business Class – Copyrights and Performing Rights Organizations.mp4

This is Marius Perron from the Audio EnginEARing Institute.

Here is a video that is part of the Music Business class that we offer at our school.

We show you, step by step how to Copyright a song. And we go through the process of joining a Performance Rights Organization – either ASCAP or BMI. The video is hosted by Marcy Grace – she’s the instructor of our Music Business class. Marcy is also a successful Texas singer/songwriter. At the present time, one of the songs she wrote and recorded is climbing up the Texas music charts!

Charlie Huriega is a new singer/songwriter.
He is unfamiliar with the copyright process. We will help him copyright two of his songs in this video. He also wants to join BMI or ASCAP – those companies will make sure Charlie gets paid if someone uses his songs.

BMI and ASCAP are performance rights organizations (PROs) that serve to protect the interests of songwriters. Anyone who plays songs publicly is required to pay royalties to the songwriter if that songwriter has indicated they desire payment and they are a member.
