The AIA Chicago Foundation presents the 2021 Roche Travel Scholarship winner Erik Schiller who will discuss emerging landscape practices in Tbilisi.
The city of Tbilisi, founded more than 1,500 years ago, has long been the center of arts and culture in the Caucasus. Today, the city is faced with forest blight, deadly flash floods, systematic disinvestment in public space, and is grappling with the legacy of two hundred years of Russian occupation. Into this mix is thrust the students of a landscape training program founded to equip Georgian architecture students with the resources and tools necessary to address their city’s toughest problems. Join us to hear about what Erik learned through his research in Tblisi.
Erik Schiller is a M.Arch & MLA candidate at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Beyond teaching, his research includes design robotics and architectural historiography.
