Community Spotlight: Nadya Tannous & Krystal TwoBulls – The Oceti Sakowin Treaty Council Resolution on Palestine
Premieres January 27, 2024

In her article, Palestine In the Digital Cloud, Dr. Hanine Shehadeh argues that by using digital media, Palestinians can articulate a “digital floating homeland,” where online they can create virtual communities of resistance. In the 21st century, Palestinians have been able to upload videos and voices and images and millions of digital bits onto an online platform that continually digitally reconstructs the homeland.
Using found footage, this project serves to archive and repurpose raw audio testimony into an homage of our peoples’ voice. It is an attempt to virtually bridge the illusion of distance between Palestine on the ground, and Palestine across the world. This project intends to add to the growing body of digital media that upholds the “digital floating homeland.” My hope is that in the face of extreme censorship, this piece provides digital armor to the testimonies of the Palestinian people.
May it be a sonic love letter to Gaza, to the sea, and to the steadfastness of the Palestinian struggle.

This month, our Community Spotlight is highlighting the resolutions that have been passed by Native Nations here on Turtle Island in solidarity with the Palestinian people, calling for a ceasefire, an end to the Genocide and an end to the Occupation. This episode showcases the presentation of and the passing of the resolution by the Oceti Sakowin Treaty Council. In the Resolution, the Treaty Council cites their peoples’ own historical genocidal experience at the hands of occupying U.S. forces, and recognizes the Israeli government as engaging in genocide and ethnic cleansing in a similar fashion, in real time. The Oceti Sakowin Treaty Council represents all of the approximately 49 Tribes within the Oceti Sakowin territory. Prior to colonization, the Oceti Sakowin occupied a vast land area that covered 24 American states and parts of 4 Canadian Provinces. The people of the Oceti Sakowin have lived in this region since time immemorial. The resolution was presented in Mniluzahan (Rapid City, SD) by co-authors, Krystal TwoBulls and our very own Nadya Tannous.
