Active Travel: Securing a sustainable recovery through smart data

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

The ‘new normal’ is a term that has been bandied around the media and industry discussion since the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in March 2020. Since that time, travel patterns have undergone a dramatic change with the use of private vehicles rocketing throughout the pandemic, and train travel declining. We have also witnessed a surge in Active Travel. Walking, running, and cycling have become a mainstay for many over the last year.

There are those however, who posit that this trend will burn out and travel patterns and modal splits will return to pre-pandemic levels. This assumption fails to consider the targets that the UK has set itself: to reduce our carbon emissions, encourage a reduction in private vehicle use, and clean up our air.

How then, do we make the Active Travel agenda a meaningful agent of change towards driving sustainability and reducing pollution? What tools do local authorities need to spur on a permanent modal shift towards Active Travel? What projects should we invest money into to meet our long term sustainability goals? And, what do we need to do to encourage the population at large to consider Active Modes of travel?

These questions and more will be dissected by our expert panel who will look at the role of data in driving tangible change and leading the Active Travel revolution.
