The 3 minute and 10-second tape, originally paired with an installation, is filled with the fleeting memories of my childhood, the moments I thought I forgot, or even the memories I was too young to remember. Juxtaposed with the memories are moments that are the softer, simpler shots of travel, nature, and the small metaphors for what life has yet to offer, the ambiguity of the future. I have established a pattern with repeated VHS glitches so they highlight the patterns of childhood itself, those ruptures that occur during holiday traditions, family rituals, and even during children’s everyday trials to meet parental expectations. This work strives to straddle the deeply personal and the more universal experience of 21st-century kids who grew up with being heavily documented.
