In New Orleans, for more than a century, a tradition rooted in native American and Black slave communities in the south of the country, lives on. Every year, for Mardi Gras these „Black Indians“ celebrate their culture.

Bead after bead, all year long, some 40 „tribes“ make their amazing costumes, as they prepare to parade in the neighborhoods. This unique carnival mixing music and art reflects their identity.

By following the Washitaw Nation and its „Big Chief“ David Montana, we travel through a certain history of America, one of minorities, one that is hidden from us, one that gave birth to Jazz.
