Famous for its ceramics, the town of Caltagirone in southern Sicily is a marvel in more ways than one. The city, razed by the earthquake that devastated Sicily in 1683, was rebuilt in the Baroque style of the 18th century and there are many ceramic works, such as the famous staircase of Santa Maria del Monte.
