Copenhagen: Cycling in the Era of COVID-19

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

The eighth event in the Around the World series is „Cycling in the Era of COVID-19 „. In this event a panel consisting of Petra Marko (Co- Founder of Marko and Placemakers, William Bradley (Principal Policy Officer for Transport for the GLA), Julian Scriven (Managing Director, Brompton Bike Hire) and Caroline Nagel (Associate at COBE) considered the lessons we can learn from cities like Copenhagen, where more than 40% of the city’s inhabitants ride their bike for their daily commute.

During the lockdown cycling had a renaissance, for many it was an opportunity for freedom, exercise and a safer way to travel. Lockdown in a way was a prerequisite to what cities could be like – more sustainable, quieter and pollution-free. The panel considers questions such as: now that restrictions have lifted and passenger numbers on public transport have almost returned to pre lockdown levels, where have the cyclists gone? How can we improve the statistic that only 4% of Londoners cycle when almost all Londoners can ride a bike, are they choosing not to cycle or do they feel they aren’t supported as road users?
