CRITICAL THEORY: A SILENT SHORT FILM – FESCH.TV
CRITICAL THEORY: A SILENT SHORT FILM & FESCH.TV:
The almost 9 minute film is experienced fully in B&W, in slo-motion and is completely silent. It captures the chronological sequence of a group of new age, female scientists getting ready, conducting research, and then putting together what seems to be a human in a “rocket dress”. The black and white filter, and soundlessness of the film is a nod to the beginning days of the traditional film – to take the viewer back to the most rawest form of the medium without the need for color or sound information to still convey composition and to focus completely on the visual aspect. I chose slo motion and in some scenes even extra slow motion as a direct contradiction to the fast paced, extreme short attention span of the present viewer – to recommend them to try to sit through 9 minutes of raw film without feeling as if they need more to be stimulated and to find nuance in every frame. The film also stays relevant in a contemporary context as some shots also throw in the use of AI as a sort of abstraction and other worldly aspect . The intro and introduction of the characters also build up slow to give the viewer a chance to appreciate the characters aesthetics and fashion sense as the film also doubles as a fashion feature . The end is showing parallels to an actual rocket lifting off and bringing an even newer age to civilization towards the cosmos. Hope you enjoy!
