In 1992 the legendary American Rock band, Nirvana, played a memorable gig at the Kings Hall in Belfast.
I was fortunate enough to be there. This week marks the 30th anniversary of the late Kurt Cobain’s tragic suicide. The era of the band’s ascendency was a strange, chaotic, exhilarating mixture of creative inspiration and troubled introspection. Away from all the myth making, it’s an ultimately a very sad, human story. When I think of Kurt Cobain, though, I always come back with a warm smile to his acquisition of a ratty, stripey Dennis the Menace jumper from a fan at that distant Belfast gig. The jumper has now, of course, become an anti-fashion icon. Nevermind…
