Ethereal Maiden by Boiana Ludmilova Aleksandrova, Robin Ellis Lee (copyrighted) & FESCH.TV:

A modern Interpretation of Bulgarian Folklore in the form of a quirky fashion film.

Based on the Bulgarian legend of “самодиви” (samodivi), this film will emphasise on the importance of authenticity, independence, freedom and rebellion against all things ordinary and fake. By breaking the well known boundaries and stereotypes of women’s role in life, the main character will let go of the boring and dreadful reality of NOT staying true to yourself.

She will choose to go back to her roots, to her true nature and habitat where no materialistic value is ever necessary. She will abandon the form of existence which is dependent on consumeristic beliefs and values.

Director Statement

Ethereal Maiden highly resonates with my personality by fully representing my style and aesthetics as a creator and director. The opportunity to create this piece has given me the wings to express my artistic aspirations to the world. Entirely self-funded, this passion project has given a number of young creators the chance to embrace their talents and be a part of a concept they feel inspired by. Ethereal Maiden is influenced by my Bulgarian background and the country’s folkloric legends. As a Bulgarian living abroad, away from my roots, the nostalgia, and the feeling of being confined in a foreign country was unavoidably but subtly conveyed within the film as my love for Bulgarian traditions grew larger. Truthfully said, I gave my all to this project practically and mentally and I am thankful I was able to motivate these amazing people to support me in this memorable journey.
