COMMUNITY STEWARDSHIP INITIATIVE IN SEARCH OF MEDIA PARTNERS & VENUE FOR THE “HOW QUEENS GETS DOWN” POWER SUMMIT – SPRING 2022

How, Queens Gets Down – The Movement is a community-based arts campaign presented by District Leader I. Daneek Miller, LIFE CAMP, Inc. and Edge School of the Arts Dance Legacy, in partnership with community-based organizations and local artists to celebrate the stewardship of the Jamaica, Queens community and its people through arts activities.

To date the movement has a membership of over 40 Jamaica, Queens community based organizations and is supported by several elected officials. The group has filmed and launched a music video set to the music of local artists Tai Ducati and Hazel Beatz. The project was made possible with funding administered by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs through an award granted to the Edge School of the Arts Dance Legacy of Queens by, then Council Member, I. Daneek Miller.

The group has formed a planning committee and is gearing up for the 1st Annual How Queens Gets Down Power Summit scheduled for Spring 2022. The summit is intended to bring Jamaica, Queens community based organizations together with elected officials and representatives of city and state agencies to plan collaborative projects that will enhance the vibrancy and forge further unification of the Jamaica, Queens community and its people.

Potential activities include:

Destination Jamaica
The brainstorming & planning of activities, attractions and initiatives that will attract residents and tourist to the Downtown Jamaica area.

The Legacy Continues . . .
Discussions surrounding the history of Jamaica, Queens and how we can perpetuate and further its legacy.

How Queens Gets Down Music Concert
Featuring hip hip and jazz pioneers and celebrated artists that represent Queens, NY.

Jamaica NAACP ACT-SO Competition Awards Ceremony
Gold medalists who competed in the Dance, Music, Theater and Visual Arts categories are named gold medalists at a Taste of Queens Dinner banquet.

The team is currently in search of media, travel & tourism and hotel management companies who have stake and interest in the Jamaica, Queens community to engage in discussion with us about initiative efforts and become agents, propellents and supporters of How Queens Gets Down – The Movement.
