J Mitchell Freelance Fashion Designer Portfolio & FESCH.TV:
Hi. I’m Jon, originally from Brighton I now live in the beautiful Huddersfield countryside where I work as a freelance fashion designer with over 20 years of commercial fashion industry experience. I specialise in CAD designs, tech packs and the process of clothing manufacturing.
My employment journey began at Moss Bros, as a menswear designer based in London, followed by a stint as a streetwear designer at Manchester sportswear label Bench. The next chapter led me to Puma, where I served as a Senior Sportswear Designer, spending five rewarding years in Nuremberg Germany, designing a mix of lifestyle, activewear, and performance clothing. Notably designing collections for the Italian Football Federation during their 2006 World Cup Winning season, Renault during their F1 winning season and team leader of Puma’s sportswear fashion design team, which was selling around 6 million units worldwide per season.
In 2008, I returned to my hometown of Brighton & Hove and established a freelance fashion design studio. Adidas and Timberland were among the notable names in my clientele during this period. At the same time, I launched a start-up streetwear fashion brand called Sloth Clothing and operated a t-shirt printing business. During this time I realised that I had bags of talent as a designer but had many skills to learn. Running my own business meant I needed to be accounting, marketing and sales, customer service and communication, networking, website design and general dogsbody—all skills which helped me build a successful business today.
In 2012, I went back into full time work and took on a role as denim designer with Next Sourcing in London, and in 2014, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work as a full-time activewear designer for Umbro, leaving my mark on football clubs, designing kits for renowned teams like West Ham, Everton, and PSV Eindhoven.
Now settled in the outskirts of Huddersfield, in the scenic Yorkshire countryside, I reignited my freelance journey, establishing J Mitchell Fashion Design in 2017. Using all the skills that I had learned over the past 15 years, the studio swiftly gained recognition, earning the title of Best Men’s Fashion Design Studio UK.
