LCF Archive in Virtual Reality – Monica Hodgson – FESCH.TV
FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:
You have been transported to a serene classroom adjacent to the bustling Oxford Circus to have a rare, intimate look into three garments from the LCF Archive.
Monica Hodgson was awarded a Distinction in her Master of the Arts in Fashion Curation. Her work investigates the future of fashion curation and exhibition making. It explores the innovative topic of digital curation in all forms: entirely virtual, hybrid, or physical with some digital elements.
This VR experience is an experimental concept that embodies the notions of Monica’s research. Visitors put on the Oculus Quest VR headset and are transported to the educational setting of an LCF classroom. They experience the garments up close and intimate and can observe details. Accompanying audio, text and graphics construct and expand the narrative of each garment.
The three garments chosen from the LCF Archive embody the style of European 1920s fashion. The first is a peach cotton dress donated by Hester Borron, and the second is a mulberry crepe dress, both 1920s. The final garment is a men’s tailored jacket of the 1920s style, recreated in 2001 for the Fashion Space Gallery, Embodying Practise exhibition.
These garments are too delicate to be handled frequently and displayed for long periods of time. The VR display enables them to be experienced by audiences forever, in any location, without the risk of conservational damage.
The experience was filmed using the Insta360 camera and edited in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. The virtual recreation of the jacket was generated on CLO, using the jacket’s original pattern from the LCF archive.
