Light Painting Our Storytime with Santa Set

Light Painting Our Storytime with Santa Set
We currently have four unique themes for The Best Santa Experience. We rotate them on a yearly basis. They are the charming Storytime with Santa, the super-fun Santa’s Magic Workshop, a visit with Mr. Kringle in Santa’s Cabin, and, introduced in 2021, Santa’s Enchanted Forest.
The Original Santa Experience
This is „The Original“, and a classic Santa Claus theme! Storytime with Santa has Santa reading to the kids at bedtime. Of course, the reading of „The Night Before Christmas“ from Santa’s Magic Book is only the start of this wonderful Santa Experience!
By the time your kids head for home, they’ve checked for their names on The Nice List, had a sneak peek into Santa’s Magic Toy Bag, and heard even more stories about Santa’s travels all over the world while Mr. Kringle shows some of his travel routes on his Magic Globe!
Oh, and let’s not forget about a fun flight on Santa’s Magic Flying Sled, and a special treat of milk and cookies with Santa! Somewhere in there, everyone will probably have a Magic Snowball Fight too! And every visit concludes with presents from Santa! It’s an action-packed, fun-filled hour, and one that none of you will ever forget!
Elf Michael’s Magic
Now that the scene was all completed in Photoshop, it needed to come to life in the camera room. After all of that, believe it or not, this is where the real magic starts.
I had the walls and ceiling image printed on fabric so that you will see something there when you enter the set. But, that turned all of that work into basically just a „flat“ picture at this point. It lacks dimension and realism. But I’m not done quite yet.
So, once the fabric background scene is in place, I add the bed, Christmas trees, rug, shelves, toys, and all of the other props to the scene.
Then, the camera is placed on our heavy-duty camera stand and locked into position. It won’t move for several weeks. That’s the key to what makes The Best Santa Experience photographs different from all others that you’ll ever see.
Once the scene is ready, and the camera is mounted in place, I then light paint the entire set to create incredible depth and detail of all of the contents. But that fabric background still lacks depth and realism. Nope, still not done yet.
Once the whole scene has been light painted, I blend that image with one of the real walls and ceiling, which, of course, was also light painted. The resulting „Master File“ will be the basis of each photograph of every child, family, and activity that we create while Santa is here.
Because the camera doesn’t move, I can seamlessly match everything up in post-production, and add „Santa Magic“ where appropriate. Yes, it’s a lot of creative work. But it’s all part of The Best Santa Experience and truly what turns our images into the artwork that your family will treasure for generations to come.
