Michael Mosley (RIP) doing a great job of explaining how we got to where we are in terms of supporting autistic children and adults in need of care and support. He does let himself down in the final segment. „I’ve tried applying some of Skinner’s techniques to my own kids in a slightly, sort of haphazard fashion but what I’ve never done, is I’ve never seen it applied systematically and in an organised way.“ Maybe it was the scientist in him but after observing this ’science‘ in action he’s a convert. How he could think this was anything other than a primitive way to control fellow human beings is a let down but this is still a very useful film. For those who watch it, it will go some way to explain why ourselves and many others resist the use of all forms of Behaviour Support that incorporate Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA). ABA is the backbone of the widely-promoted Positive Behaviour Support model… a model rooted the murky science of behaviour. The film says it all… Skinner’s dream was never realised. People don’t like being controlled and told what to do. Only in the fields of education and the care of our society’s most vulnerable citizens is this shoddy ’science‘ still used. Universities need to stop teaching this stuff!
