Nicolette-Lin_Self-intro Fantastic Film School Application
FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:
1. Please give us a brief introduction about yourself.
Hi, I’m Nicolette. I’m a writer and creative producer based in Singapore. I currently work at Viddsee Studios. Before working at Viddsee, I was a scriptwriter at a local production house. In 2018, I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Film at LASALLE College of the Arts, where I majored in screenwriting. I was also a participant of the Youth Jury & Critics Programme at the 29th SGIFF.
In my free time nowadays, I write for short films and passion projects with any friend who is willing to collaborate and dream with me. There’s not much funds there but definitely a lot of fun!
It’s fun because I love storytelling and I love film. I’m obsessed with how film touches and moves people, how it brings people together. I love how cinema is shaped by our realities and our lived experiences, but at the same time, it can also change how we see the world we live in. It’s powerful and beautiful and I will always want to be a part of it.
2. Please share with us about your „the most“ favorite film/filmmaker and why.
One of my favourite filmmakers is Céline Sciamma. Every time I watch a film of hers, I take away something different. First, second, third time, all different experiences. The fourth time I watched Petite Maman, I marvelled at how she made what is essentially a time travel film, a genre film, so deeply personal. There is something so intimate but also very universally existential about her films.
3. Please introduce your recent projects. What would you like to gain from this program regarding your projects?
As part of my work at Viddsee, I collaborate with filmmakers in Southeast Asia to develop their short films into long-form series. Many of these short films are genre shorts with the potential to be developed into feature films. But with my limited knowledge and little experience in developing genre films, I haven’t really been able to work on these short-to-feature genre projects.
Through Fantastic Film School, I would really love to learn what goes into producing a genre feature film, how it differs from drama feature films, especially regarding funding and creative development.
I’m also very excited to meet fellow filmmakers from around Asia through this programme. Filmmakers who share a common love for genre films, and hopefully, I’ll get to know some future collaborators.
4. All classes at Fantastic Film School will be conducted in English. Is it possible for you to submit a treatment in English if we conduct a class on story-development?
I write primarily in English and I’m currently writing a feature treatment in English. It’s a horror-romance film inspired by Indonesian folklore. And I can’t wait to see how my time at Fantastic Film School will shape and inform the development of this project.
