Once More With Feeling

Once More, With Feeling is an animated film about military statues in London and the actions that have led to them being elevated. In this film, the statues travel to faraway lands and alter them forever.

Coming from a background in graphic design, I felt comfortable with manipulating print ephemera. Historical postcards of India, Afghanistan, South Africa, Iran and Syria were sourced and used as the setting for this story. The tone of the film was inspired by Czech and Polish animations that depict violence without sentimentality.

The conceptualization and making of this film led me to develop my own style of animating existing and static visuals. By inserting the presence of white space into the sequences, I could disrupt the narrative of an already established image and reveal a new meaning.
