Peers In The Garden – FESCH.TV

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

Collecting real people experience from my hometown, through this short film I depicted two seemingly irrelevant social groups in a modern Chinese city, both marginalized from the rapid expansion of the Chinese economy: migrant farmer-labors who build buildings and urban wealthy who went broke due to debts from the on-going housing crisis.
The fiction is told in a surrealistic fashion through the perspective of a six-year-old boy from the later family, who believed the house and land they once owned still belongs to him, until one day he came back, and found out the land has been taken by a farmer, who simply saw a vacant house and turned its garden to her own farmland. The realization of the loss of home causes an earthquake that shatters everything related to home in the boy’s eyes.
