Printing Tees and Planting Seeds | Meet Latinx with Plants & FESCH.TV:

Meet Latinx With Plants, a plant store located in the heart of Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. The brainchild of Andi Xoch, long-time Angelino by way of Mexico City, Latinx With Plants is wholeheartedly committed to deepening their community’s connection to the earth, intentionally cultivating the next generation of plant parents.

The initial seeds of Latinx With Plants grew out of necessity, but were honed by Andi’s mission to contribute meaningfully to her community. When her father fell ill, she took to selling plants in her front yard, hosting regular pop-up markets as a means of fundraising to offset his medical expenses. “My dad was a street vendor. I think because of that, I carry an entrepreneurial spirit that I learned through him which really made me feel like I had agency over what I was doing.”

Within 4 months of at-home pop-ups, Andi was able to save enough to open her first brick-and-mortar store. After outgrowing a number of locations, Latinx With Plants settled into their current home at 2208 Cesar Chavez Ave., on one of the busiest streets in Boyle Heights.

Through the growth, Andi has drawn from her near-15 years experience with local grassroots organizing, always centering her community first and foremost, using her business as a means of uplifting, educating, inspiring, and connecting black and brown plant parents around the world.

You’ll find much more than just plants inside the shop. From pots, to candles, jewelry, and other curated goods, Andi hand-sources everything she sells, with a particular emphasis on ethically made, quality products. This is especially true of the shop’s merch, which features Andi’s own artwork printed on BELLA+CANVAS. “I’m of the opinion that you should invest in staple pieces that are going to last you forever. I don’t want to contribute to the fast fashion industry, so I’d rather invest in better quality, and work with folks that are making things ethically.”

Whether you come for a plant or a tee, you’ll leave Latinx With Plants with a sense of community, agency, and purpose, and that’s exactly the point.
