Shoilee is about the brand’s story which is the strength and beauty of women. It is more than a fashion film. Shoilee as a brand works in a city space while being connected to the traditional roots of Bangladesh. It’s the city and the rural spaces that bond through the hands of women. It’s about empowerment. So, when they approached me to visually showcase this it was a great opportunity and at the same time a hard one. After researching the brand for a long time, I decided that the best way to showcase this brand would be going to the very core of its. We went to the Santal, a major ethnic community of Bangladesh that makes a lot of the products that Shoilee sells to its consumers. It’s amazing how a product that they make in that very traditional space of this community brings so much joy to the people of the city. We wanted to share their story with the masses. It was a creative challenge to show these real women and their thousands of years of culture and tradition in front of the camera without losing that actual reality in just a few minutes. It’s the sound, the place, the real faces, the real character, the food, the beauty everything that we had to capture. It took time. For a month, we did character development, we extensively observed their lives, we worked with starting from the artisans‘ families to the people who were delivering these products from the villages to the city. It was a long but soulful journey. Seeing the overwhelmingly positive reaction that we got from our audience and from our characters themselves, I think as a team we have managed to do so. These are the real women that we have portrayed with utmost authenticity through the lens of our camera and I hope I have done justice to them.
