‘Societal Nomad’ draws creative reference from individual life experiences, and the anxieties of the everyday. At a juncture in time when fashion photography has evolved from a simple commercial tool of communication to a weaponised facilitator of persuasion and indoctrination, the camera becomes the unconscious manipulator.
This project works as a visual acknowledgement of the fragility of human behaviour and its ease of manipulation within society. This project derives from a desire to challenge conventional notions of societal structures and highlight issues of indoctrination.

The photographic series consists of a fragmented narrative articulated through a lo-fi visual language. Subverting traditional fashion modes of communication, the hyperreal is exchanged for the raw and uncanny. Diverting from commercial fashion image making, the series questions notions of the constructed versus the authentic.

Through a series of typologies, the work employs subtle symbolism to expose the facsimile grooming society is subjected to. The work’s intention is to create juxtaposing moments of intensity and subtlety, positioning the viewer in the role of the spectator and voyeur.

‘Societal Nomad’ is an invitation to perform an acknowledgment and an act of resistance against this patriarchal hegemony and the control it exerts on our politics, media, and society.
