Dr. Kim Lucas Benton was raised in San Francisco, CA. She is a general dentist in private practice in Daly City, CA. She is a graduate of Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry class of 1988. Initially, following graduation from Meharry, Dr. Benton joined her father in private practice, and in 1998, after gaining considerable experience, she decided it was time to venture out on her own.

In June 2018, she completed her MPH with a focus on Diabetes and Oral Health. They conduct Diabetes Risk Assessment screenings in her dental practice with the „Take the Quiz“ from the American Diabetes Association. After taking the quiz, she explains the importance of getting checked with their Primary Care Provided (PCP) to see if they are at risk for Type 2 Diabetes and share the message with one other person so they can get screened too. Dr. Benton stresses the importance that Oral Health impacts one’s total health and wellbeing and without ideal Oral Health, one CANNOT have ideal overall health.

Dr. Benton continues to enjoy teaching the 1st year dental students on Mondays at Pacific Dugoni dental school. It has been a total of 15 years. Since the completion of her MPH, her role has changed to discuss the impact of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and health inequities with health care choices, in particular Oral Health.

Working in the underserved Bayview Hunter’s Point neighborhood in San Francisco, Armstrong is the Founder of the Primed & Prepped: A Hospitality Management/Culinary Arts Mentoring and Job Training Program at the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA. The purpose of the program is to help mitigate the barriers to employment for young males and females of color.
