The Power Van

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

The Power Van is a small diesel operated van that acts like a train and runs on the railroad tracks. It is powered by a six cylinder diesel engine and can accommodate upto 13 passengers in one van.
There is no need to turn the van around as it can be driven in either direction, the driver simply swaps seats and sits on the end facing the direction the van is traveling in.
The Power Van is operated privately and is stored and run from the Outeniqua Transport Museum in George in the Western Cape.
A return trip up and back down the Outeniqua Mountain Pass is approximately 35km and takes approximately two hours to travel. There is ample opportunity to take photographs of the majestic views overlooking George and even further beyond. On a good clear day, one can even see the tip of Mosselbay in the far distance.
The trip takes you on a historic journey with live commentary on sights and points of interest.
The trip takes you through six of the seven tunnels built to accommodate trains that used to travel on this route without too much steep climbing.
There are many meandering twists and turns throughout the route, this is in in order to keep the gradient low for ease of passage.
On the return trip, one gets the opportunity to stop for half an hour and enjoy a Picnic while enjoying a 365 degree view from the Outeniqua Mountain.
The trip is well worth it and good for the whole family.
Contact the Outeniqua Transport Museum for reservations.
