Three Early B+W Silent shorts TRAILER & FESCH.TV:
1970 Fine Arts Plaza
I can still feel the space opening itself up to the dawn. The camera explores the volume of the Fine Arts Plaza while attached to my bicycle. At the time, I lived on my bicycle. I rode my errands. I commuted from home to university. I traveled abroad. I was invited to participate in both a dance and performance art piece. All on my bicycle.
1970 Demon Me
I purchased a developing tank for Super 8mm film from a mail order company in Chicago, Illinois, and this was the result. My friend Charles C. Hill told me it was possible to develop your own Super 8mm film. I had recently moved into an apartment shared with my girlfriend. I set my camera on a tripod, hit auto-run, knelt in front of the TV and shot this film. I set up my darkroom in the windowless bathroom and went to work. Charles actually continued to develop his films the old fashion way. Take the film out of the camera, put it in a black trash bag, pour in the chemicals and shake it.
1971 beats
A chance encounter on the streets. Cheap studio space has forever sent artists into the down beat parts of the world’s cities. Santa Ana, Orange County, California in the 1970s fit the bill. Life was always outside on the sidewalk, knocking on your door. Sometimes, even in the middle of the night.
