TOP TEN: BLØF

They were formed by bassist Peter Slager, vocalist Paskal Jacobsen, keyboarder Bas Kennis and drummer Henk Tjoonk in the Netherlands in 1992. First they played as a cover band before they released their first album with original songs called „Naakt onder de hemel“ in 1995. The lp was released independently and first became a hit in their home province of Zeeland. After the album got positive reactions and critics they were signed by a record label in 1997.

However internal struggle almost led to the band’s breakup and drummer Tjoonk was fired and replaced by Chris Götte. Their 2nd album „Helder“ was then released the same year with the singles „Liefs uit London“ reaching the Dutch Top 20. The group then released 2 singles from their ‚Naakt onder de hemel“ in new live-versions, „An De Kust“ and „Wat Zoe Je Doen?“ – the latter becoming their first Top 10 hit in their homecountry, where it peaked at #5.

After a successful releases of a live album called „XXL Live Met Het Zeeuws Orkest“ they released their next studio album „Boven“ in 1999, including the single „Harder Dan Ik Hebben Kan“ which peaked at #11 in the Netherlands. In 2000 the next album „Watermakers“ was released.

In 2001 drummer Chris Götte died after a motorcycle accident. The band took a subsequent hiatus and released a live album with Götte’s last concert. In 2002 they dedicated their next album „Blauwe Ruis“ to Götte. Meanwhile Norman Bonink replaced Götte playing the drums. In 2003 the next studio album „Omarm“ was released.

In 2004 the group toured together with American band „Counting Crows“ and released a collab called „Holiday In Spain“ together. The next studio album „Umoja“ was released in 2006 which topped the Dutch album charts on release. The next 2 albums were all recorded in one take: „October“ released in 2008 and „April“ released in 2009 did not have the success of previous albums though. So the group returned back to what made them famous in the first place and released their next studio album „Alles Blijft Anders“ in 2011.

The band then released 3 more studio albums: In 2014 „In Het Midden Van Alles“, in 2017 „Aan“ and in 2022 „Polaroid“.
