● ANNA
Julia Roesler | documentary | 18′
Anna remembers stories from her childhood, told so many times that they’ve become self-descriptions. Anna as a fat child in ballet class; Anna with a family friend in Venice; Anna as a teenager in a club. These memories are part of an identity that is defined by being overweight and by the implanted idea of being flawed.
● LOWER AMBITIONS
Irem Schwarz | experimental documentary | 7′
In 1932, media mogul and German nationalist Alfred Hugenberg coined the phrase „social welfare is what creates jobs“. In the late 1990s, the familiar concept of the enemy as being „work-avoidant“ and „antisocial“ was already used frequently on private television. Did afternoon talk shows create Agenda 2010?
● SIRENS
Ilaria Di Carlo | experimental documentary | 13′
SIRENS captures Germany’s coal-fired power plants in their final years of power generation. The film takes us on a journey through industrial wastelands, recalling the passage of Odysseus‘ ship through the strait of the Sirens – an odyssey through landscapes that held promise for the future, but have turned into a dystopia that is leaving a permanent mark on Earth’s ecosphere.
● JEIJAY
Maren Wiese, Petra Stipetić | animation | 8′
JEIJAY begins where most love stories end. The film is about two people who are trying to repress the slow but inevitable decay of their relationship. Trapped in the isolation of their small apartment, they realize the facade of their happy love life is crumbling.
● DAS EINHORN MIT DER SCHNEEHOSE RANNTE PLÖTZLICH LOS (THE UNICORN IN SNOWPANTS SUDDENLY RAN OFF)
Philipp Schaeffer | documentary | 18′
This documentary explores the imaginary worlds of three blind children, introducing us to confident youngsters for whom blindness is not a disability but their normality. Larks, telephones and short stories all play a role.
● WARUM BEGEHT HELEN KOCH SCHWEREN KRAFTWAGENDIEBSTAHL? (WHY DOES HELEN KOCH COMMIT SERIOUS VEHICLE THEFT?)
Moritz Geiser | fiction | 22′
Eccentric teacher Helen and problem student Mia hate the social roles they were assigned by the school system. When a seemingly harmless conflict escalates, a genre-busting trip through nocturnal Berlin begins – driven by the longing for physical immediacy in an increasingly disembodied and virtual world.
