Umubano Mu Bantu: Love Among People

„Umubano mu Bantu: Love among People” is an audio collection of short stories from oral history life interviews I conducted with my parents. From Rwanda to the United States, these are a few stories of the country they love, but left, and the people they love, but lost.

This project is built toward the completion of my thesis work for Columbia University’s Masters of Arts program in Oral History. The final project is evolving as I continue to conduct interviews with family members and will travel to Rwanda to record footage to complete this experimental (self)-documentary.

During one of our interviews I asked my father what his favorite song was.
He answered,
Umubano mu Bantu by Nkurunziza Francois

This is the song that inspired my work.
