Vietnaese Bubble-Californian’s Dress For EergenceIMG_0736 – FESCH.TV
FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:
The State of California’s “Your Actions Save Lives” campaign, which provides Californians with information about how to do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19, is partnering with local artists to reach disproportionately impacted communities throughout the state. The program features a variety of artwork with empowering public health messages of protecting one another, resilience and community.
Developed in partnership with The Center at Sierra Health Foundation, the arts initiative is designed to raise awareness of critical actions Californians have taken to help stop the spread of COVID-19, such as wearing a mask, washing hands, physical distancing and getting vaccinated. How do we communicate when we cannot physically be together?
Two “Bubbles” represent our social, familial, or solitary bubbles that we live in during the pandemic. The people activating the Bubbles represent disproportionately impacted populations in San José, including Vietnamese and Latinx.
Clothing created for this project and worn by the people activating the Bubbles will camouflage into the structure, with accents of color or traditional apparel for each unique community. Having the installations activated by community members, rather than models, empowers impacted populations. The messages are written in Vietnamese and English. The spirit of the work is intended to provide a sense of magic, to uplift, and imagine a hopeful future-how we get to that place following harm reduction messaging floating around and held by community members.
Potential Locations:
Vietnamese and Latinx Bubbles: Californians Dress for Emergence will be installed and photographed in two community settings: Kelly Park (Vietnamese Bubble) and the Heritage Rose Garden in San José. (Latinx Bubble)
The photographs from these performances for the camera will be utilized to create large scale billboards, one dissemination piece of our public art messaging campaign. The longevity of the messaging campaign is ushered forward via billboards installed in the community, television spots, pamphlets, and social media.
